New Family Comedy Coming to Theaters

Provident Films, the maker of hit Christian films like Overcomer, Fireproof, and Courageous, is set to release its next film, Family Camp, in theaters on May 13.

The first feature film from The Skit Guys, Tommy Woodard and Eddie James, the film is a labeled as a laugh-out-loud, family comedy in which the Ackerman family seeks to get away from the busyness of everyday life at a church camp in the woods. There, at rustic Camp Katokwah, the family finds themselves in a battle for the coveted camp trophy with the Sanders family and their harmonica-playing chiropractor dad, Eddie.

“Soon, Tommy and Eddie are engaged in hilarious top-this battles instead of with their families that desperately need them,” the official film synopsis says. “When all appears lost, Tommy and Eddie end up completely lost in the deep forest while hiking. As everyone at camp desperately searches, the dads are forced to worked together to discover a new direction and find their way back.”

The movie is rated PG for some action and thematic elements. In addition to Woodard and James, the film stars Leigh-Allyn Baker, Gigi Orsillo, Cece Kelly, Robert Amaya, Mark Christopher Lawrence, and social media comedian Heather Land. Through the faith-based film, the producers and actors wish to bring families together through laughter.

“We believe humor helps break down barriers,” Tommy Woodard said in the official press release. “With our first movie, we hope families not only laugh together, but they will also draw closer to each other and to God.”

“I feel like there’s a real hole in the movie world when it comes to family comedies,” added Leigh-Allyn Baker. “People, now more than ever, need to laugh. I’m really glad that people can laugh at this and laugh with us.”
